The City Council of Ibiza is finalist in the award for the geocoded Platform for Building Evaluation Reports, developed with the collaboration of Nexus Geographics, in the category "Best Project of Digital Transformation / Electronic Administration".

It is a cloud platform that solves the processing of the Building Evaluation Reports; it allows you to start inspection processes, manage the building database and record your status changes, with tables and an interactive map. It has mechanisms for allocating building records to municipal technicians, with alerts and notifications by e-mail. Through interoperable APIs, the tool is integrated with the two cloud platforms used in the city; the file manager GESTIONA from esPublico and the municipal Geographic Information System ENMAPA.

The National Congress of Innovation and Public Services (CNIS) will be held next 22 and 23 February in Madrid, the main meeting at state level on e-government, which will bring together more than 1.000 elected officials and specialized technicians from Public Administrations. With more than 200 papers that will deal with the management of digital transformation and how to put it to the service of citizens, companies and administrations. Topics such as adaptation to new regulations, transparency, simplification and reformation of administrations, governance, Smart Cities, the collaboration between public - private and public enterprises, among other topics.

The awards of this congress recognize innovative experiences and solutions realized by administrations, which add value to public services and facilitate decision-making and planning for future actions by other administrations.

Nexus Geographics will participate actively in the Congress and will present the paper "GIS specialized in Town Councils with cartography directly integrated with databases", with the collaboration of Matilde Manzano, of the City council of Ibiza.

The Provincial Council of Girona launches a GIS for Municipalities

On the 1st of February, the the Municipal Territorial Information System (SITMUN) was presented in the Girona Provincial Council.

SITMUN is a map service that allows municipalities to consult cartographic data at provincial level, produced by different administrations, in a homogenized way. The data is brought by administrations such as l’Institut Cartogràfic i Geològic de Catalunya, Centro d’Investigación Ecológica y Aplicaciones Forestals, Dirección General del Catastro and other departments of the Government. SITMUN is especially aimed at municipalities that have few resources, but which have needs in terms of Geographic Information Systems, such as consultation and rapid access to data for analysis and management of the territory.

Pere Vila, president of the Provincial Government of Girona, stressed during the presentation that "it has to be the starting point of territorial management", since "it is a great territory database of reference", which allows municipalities to "work from a municipal point of view but also with an overall vision of the different regions in Girona". He added that with SITMUN, "it will be easier to consult information to make decisions".

In this way, the Provincal Council of Girona is incorporated into the SITMUN network, which was already implemented in the councils of Barcelona and Lleida, as well as the island councils of Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza.

Nexus Geographics has been the winner of the contract of the Municipality of Barcelona to collaborate in the development of the new City Planning Geo-Portal for the city of Barcelona, during the first semester of 2016.

Nexus Geographics will collaborate in the creation of the new portal for data query. The portal, accessible from desktop computers, mobile phones and tablets, will substitute the actual applications while modernizing and unifying them in a single webpage that covers all needs for different profiles (technician, professional, citizen). Furthermore, a new web service will be created, which will improve the access and data consultancy related to city planning.

The proposed solution is taking special care of relevant usability details, like simplicity and ease of use, with a clear and intuitive graphic design; the clarity of content and the presentation of information; the agility in map navigation, the compatibility with different browsers and the adaptability through Responsive Design with components that function in a graphical way across all devices.

Barcelona is a city with 1,6M citizens. The Municipality of Barcelona has a workforce with over 6000 employees and a budget with over 2000 million euro.

The municipalities with mature information systems have a wealth of important data on the activities that take place in their territory, and virtually the majority have a strong component of geolocation.

Users have very specialized management applications (e.g. Population Census or Records Manager) to enter the data, modify it, exploit it and swap it with other administrations. The map is a natural tool to represent, communicate and explain many of these data and many municipalities, such as the of Lloret de Mar, are doing so for many years with Geographic Information Systems.

The combination of these two trends opens a very interesting opportunity: discover the city data from the map, in a natural and simple way, like millions of consumers already do with tools such as Google Maps.
